Building Professional Capacities on the Local and Regional Level in the Fight and Prevention of Radicalisation and Extremism in Online Sphere

The aim of the project is to create and strengthen the institutional, personal and professional capacities in the area of fight and prevention of radicalization and extremism in online sphere. The project reacts on the Action Plan of Prevention and Elimination of Racism, Xenophobia, Antisemitism and Other Forms of Intolerance in the Period 2016-2018. Action plan aims is to increase capacities (institutional, personal and professional) and the possibilities to more efficiently detect and prosecute the criminal offenses of extremism. We assume that the online sphere is one of the main triggers for radicalization of individuals, since it offers to far-right oriented individuals and groups the free and open space to spread and share their ideologies and attitudes without facing the consequences.

Atlas of extremism as the main output of our project creates a strict border and draw attention to the groups and individuals which are highly radicalized or have predispositions to become radical. Online research is the input tool towards understanding the extremism, its reasons, tools and consequences. It will also allow us to monitor the actual state of actors, groups and types of behaviors in the Slovak republic. To be able to effectively use the results of the research it is necessary to create a mentoring program with the cooperation of Ministry of Interior of Slovak republic and VRAX, focusing on publicly active persons in different regions dealing with prevention, elimination and fight against radicalization of society. The mentoring program will include not only the introduction with the Atlas of Extremism but will also help to understand the main reason behind the formation and development of radicals in the online sphere.
